Pastor at Florida Mega-Church to Speak at WSSU

The Rev. Dr. R. B. Holmes, Jr., pastor of First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL, will be the first presenter of the 2012-2013 James A. Gray Lecture Series.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be on October 11 at 9:30 a.m. in Dillard Auditorium of the Anderson Conference Center at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU).

With more than 6,500 members and 35 active ministries, First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church is one of the leading and largest churches in the State of Florida.  In addition to serving as pastor, Holmes leads the church’s ministries which focus on such areas as health care and economic development in addition to individuals and groups within its congregation and community.

Holmes, who has been in the ministry for 25 years, also serves as CEO and chairman of the board of Bethel Family Restaurant, chairman of the board of the Bethel Family Counseling Center and of the board of Bethel Empowerment.  He is also president of the National Congress of Christian Education, an auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

A native of Jacksonville, FL, Holmes earned his B.A. degree from Malone College, his master’s degree from Methodist Theological Seminary and his doctoral degree from Virginia Union University. 

The James A. Gray Lecture Series, sponsored by the James A. Gray Endowment and Winston-Salem State, annually brings in speakers to address ethical issues facing modern society.
