Founded in 1974, Ailey II has become one of the most popular dance companies in the United States.  It is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country's best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today's outstanding emerging choreographers.  In addition to providing a platform for young dancers, the company embodies Alvin Ailey's pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training and community programs for all people.

With Artistic Director Troy Powell, the company's repertory has included works by dance masters such as Alvin Ailey, Talley Beatty, Donald Byrd and Ailey's Artist Director Robert Battle, as well as work by rising choreographers such as Sidra Bell, Thang Dao, Carlos dos Santos and Christopher L. Huggins.

After touring North America and abroad, Ailey II brings its critically acclaimed performances home each spring for an annual New York season at The Ailey Citigroup Theatre.  Prior to the annual season, the company is on a U.S. tour sponsored by the MetLife Foundation that includes performances at several universities and other venues such as the famous Westport County Playhouse in Conn.
