Cornelius Graves has joined Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) as interim director of government and community relations reporting to Nigel Alston, executive director of marketing, alumni and community relations.“Cornelius’ diverse professional experiences provide him with a strong background in government and community relations, as well as NCAA compliance and human resources,” said Alston. “His skills and expertise in establishing contacts and building relationships will certainly have a tremendous impact on our government and our community relations efforts.”
Since coming to North Carolina, Graves has focused his efforts in the area of government relations, having been a contributing staff member on the campaign committees for a newly elected state senator and a state representative. Most recently, Graves served as research assistant to N.C. Sen. Linda Garrou who represents the 32nd District. In that role, he was responsible for all direct communications from the office and representing Sen. Garrou in meetings with constituents, lobbyists, interest groups and state agencies. He also developed recommendations on a variety of statutory and constituent issues for the senator based on his research and analyzing that information.

He is an active community developer and serves of the board of advisors for the “Super Men” Male Initiative of Forsyth County, on the board of the North Carolina Diversity Council, and as an alternate representative on the Guilford County Board of Adjustment.
