Vargas Named WSSU School of Education and Human Performance Dean
Dr. Manuel P. Vargas
Dr. Manuel P. Vargas has been appointed dean of the School of Education and Human Performance at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) reporting to Dr. Brenda Allen, provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Vargas, who has served as interim dean of the school since July 2010, has more than 29 years experience in education, including 25 years in various administrative capacities at WSSU. In addition to being a tenured professor of education, he has served as program coordinator, department chair and interim associate dean for graduate programs in the School of Education and Human Performance.
“Dr. Vargas has provided exceptional leadership during his time as interim dean and I am confident that he will continue to bring the vision necessary to support the forward progress of our efforts in the education and human performance areas,” said Allen. “Also, as an administrator and an educator of teachers, Dr. Vargas earned the support and respect of his faculty, as well as that of many educators throughout the state of North Carolina.”
As dean, Vargas will provide instructional leadership for the School of Education and Human Performance and will have the administrative responsibility for planning, directing evaluating all teaching and research, as well as for public service programs offered through the School. He will also lead the growth and development efforts of the faculty to support the goals and objectives of each department.
Vargas holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of the Americas, and earned his master’s degree and PhD in School Administration from the University of Alabama.
