Antony Howard and Jonathan Figgers will represent Winston-Salem State University in the 105 Voices of History HBCU National Concert Choir’s opening event on September 21 at the Andrew Mellon Stage in Washington, D.C.

Howard, a tenor from Butner, and Figgers, a bass from Charlotte, will join representatives from the Historically Black Colleges and Universities from across the nation as they participate in the choir’s 5th Year Celebration.  The program will be hosted by the world-renowned gospel artist Wintley Phipps and feature Tramaine Hawkins, a Grammy and Dove Award winner who has been a trailblazer in contemporary gospel music, as the guest artist.

WSSU students have been represented in the 105 Voices of History 2010.  D’Walla Simmons-Burke, director of choral and vocal studies at WSSU, was nominated by her HBCU colleagues to be a Presenting National Conductor at the 2010 performance in Washington, the 2010 performance in Nassau, Bahamas, and the 2012 performance in Nashville.

The 105 Voices of History HBCU National Concert Choir was founded in 2008 as a non-profit organization to create opportunities for young African American students to develop their skill sets.  In addition to the performances, the program also provides training in a variety of areas ranging from leadership to financial literacy.

Tickets for the 105 Voices of History HBCU National Concert Choir’s 5th Year Celebration event are available online at www.hbcuchoirs-105.org through September 21.
