
WSSU Alumnus Honored in Georgia
Kelvin L. Walton, an alumnus of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), received the Lou Walker Legacy Award from the Georgia African-American Chamber of Commerce for his work in DeKalb County.
Walton is director and chief procurement officer for DeKalb County’s Department of Purchasing and Contracting. He has more than 18 years experience in the procurement profession, including his time with DeKalb and Fulton Counties as well as at Hampton University and Virginia Tech. The Lou Walker Legacy Award recognized Walton’s efforts to create an environment of equality and his support of the community in addition to his professional activities.
A 1987 graduate of WSSU, Walton earned his undergraduate degree in business administration and then a master’s degree from Hampton University. He is a past recipient of the School of Business and Economics’ Alumni Achiever Award and currently serves on the university’s Board of Visitors.
