Qualify and Apply

Admission to the program is categorized as full or associate. All students must have at least 15 semester credit hours at WSSU and a 3.25 GPA to qualify for admission to the Honors Program.

Entering Freshmen

Incoming freshmen who receive institutional scholarships are offered full admission into the Honors Program upon admission to WSSU. (*Institutional scholarships include the following: Chancellor, Achievement, Dean, Merit, Bass, and STEM.) Incoming freshmen who do not receive institutional scholarships may apply to the Honors Program after their first semester.

** Entering freshmen who are admitted into the Honors Program may participate in the Honors Summer Advancement Program (HSAP). HSAP is a three-week summer bridge program designed to give incoming honors freshmen a jump-start on their college experience. HSAP helps scholars get acclimated to college by providing academic courses, enrichment workshops, and cultural field trips.

Continuing Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors

Continuing freshmen, sophomores and juniors may be offered associate admission to the Honors Program at WSSU. Students who have completed at least 15 hours of college work at WSSU and earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 may file formal application for admission to the program by submitting an application, an essay and two faculty recommendations.

** Continuance in the Honors Program

All students in the Honors Program must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. Students whose GPAs fall below 3.0 will be allowed one semester to bring the GPA up to the required level.
