International Applicants

International Student Application Process

International student admissions are handled by the Office of Admissions. Detailed information on the process, requirements, and applications themselves is available.

Detailed information about financial requirements  necessary for admission for those needing an I-20 from this university is provided in the following section on this page.

Financial Information

Before admission to a degree seeking program can be completed, an applicant must document availability of sufficient funds for the first two semesters of enrollment. The estimated amount required for an academic year is $28,000 for undergraduate students and $28,700 for graduate students (subject to change without prior notice).

Note: Winston-Salem State University cannot assume financial responsibility for international students unless the University has made such a commitment.

The estimated amount listed above seems to be adequate for most international students; however, these figures will vary accordingly to the student's living accommodations and individual money management. International students are not eligible for financial aid through the student loan programs. Students are, however, allowed to work on campus up to 20 hours while school is in session, and up to 40 hours during vacations and holidays. You should be aware, however, that on-campus work opportunities are extremely limited. Graduate students may contact their department advisor for information regarding graduate assistantships.

A graduate student coming with a dependent spouse and two children, for example, would thus need to show proof of funds in the amount of $36,700 ($28,700+$5000+$1500+$1500). Be sure to notify admissions when submitting proof of funds if you will be coming with dependents. This will speed up the process for issuing your I-20 or DS-2019 after you are admitted.
