Upward Bound Program

Upward Bound, one of the oldest TRIO programs, is a highly successful, college based program of rigorous academic instruction, individual tutoring, and counseling for high school students from low income families, most of whom are the first generation of their families to consider postsecondary education.

During the summer, Upward Bound students live on the college campus and are involved in an intensive academic study program with an emphasis on English, mathematics, science, reading, writing and foreign language. The Students begin the program with a battery of tests to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Instruction is individualized with at least one teacher and tutor-mentor aide for each subject. Individual and group counseling is an important component of the program. Upward Bound's residential program runs for six weeks during the summer.

During the academic year, Upward Bound students receive academic instruction, tutoring and counseling. Counselors follow their progress in high school and the students learn about the college application process and how to apply for financial aid.
