Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need an Professional Advisor?
Immediately after you have been admitted to WSSU, you will be assigned to an academic advisor who will help you understand college rules and regulations. We will explain the different academic terms used, such as probation, holds, maximum class hours allowed, and course prerequisites. In addition, we will help you with:
- Placement testing
- New student class registration
- One-on-one academic advising
- Choosing a major
- Disability services
- School procedures and policies
- Student support services offered
Who is my advisor?
Students assigned to the Academic Advising Center will have the chance to meet with academic advisors before beginning of class each semester. Students can also find a complete list of professional advisors. If you cannot find your advisor, please contact us @ 336 750-2260.
When should I meet with my advisor?
We require all freshman students to meet with their academic advisors prior to registration. Please be mindful and reserve your appointment ahead of time, as advisors are extremely busy during registration time.
We recommend students keep in touch with their advisors on a regular basis during the school year.
We recommend students prepare their questions and concerns before meeting with the advisor. This speeds up the process and allows students to obtain more detailed information during the appointment time.
What is an Academic Hold?
All freshman students have an academic hold on their accounts ( this process ensures that students will be enrolled in courses required by their major).
To register for class during registration period, students MUST meet with their academic advisor first.
