Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Dr. Trae T. Cotton was appointed Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) effective March 21, 2011.
Leads the University’s Division of Student Affairs and has responsibility for all aspects of student life including leadership development, community involvement, social activities, student housing, judicial affairs, the student health center and much more.
Cotton came to WSSU from Radford University, where he served as associate vice president and dean of students. Prior to Radford, Cotton was involved in the start-up of California State University Channel Islands beginning in 2002 and served in a variety of positions there including as the founding director for student development, interim dean and associate dean of student life.
His other experience includes serving as associate director for the Office of Student Enrollment at Walden University and he was involved in the start-up of Florida Gulf Coast University from 1997 until 2000.
Cotton earned his B.A. degree from the University of North Texas, his M.A. from Eastern New Mexico University and his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Walden University. He is a member of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the Association on Higher Education and Disability, the Association of Student Conduct Administrations, the American College Personnel Association and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
