Vision and Value Statement

HR Vision and Value Statement:

Human Resources at WSSU exist to provide value added, comprehensive, customer friendly human resources services. To that end, we will provide standard services in the areas of:

  • Classification
  • Recruitment
  • Selection advice and
  • Processing for all SPA and EPA non-faculty positions.

Furthermore, Human Resources at WSSU is responsible for and committed to providing customer oriented service as follows:

  • Provides general information on benefits programs and enrollment procedures to all University employees
  • Provides general information for employee questions regarding SPA leave programs
  • Provides confidential counseling regarding work-related problems or issues to employees and supervisors
  • Provides mediation services to individuals and departments
  • Advises departments on the handling of disciplinary actions for SPA employees
  • Classifies University's staff (SPA) positions, using the established State Classification System
  • Assists departments in identifying position development opportunities in the current State system through position design and organization advice
  • Administers salary offers to candidates selected for open SPA positions
  • Screens and refers applicants for SPA openings
  • Advises in the area of Unemployment compensation
  • Advises in the area of Workers' compensation
  • Advises on proper implementation of the Family Medical Leave Act
  • Provides staff development and training and
  • Serves the University's most valuable resources - PEOPLE!
