Digital Communications Strategy Manager

WSSU's Digital Communications department (DC) supports the university’s integrated marketing efforts. Staff provide leadership and strategic direction in the use of digital tools such as web pages, social media channels, emails, online advertising, and other emerging technologies.

Housed within Integrated Marketing Communications, DC collaborates with Marketing & Branding, Design & Production, Photo & Video Production, Web Support Services, and Writing & Editorial staff to achieve a variety of digital marketing goals.

For help with promoting your department, program, group, or initiative, please complete the IMC Project Initiation Form. Together, we can develop and implement a plan integrating the following components:

Digital Strategy
  • Brainstorm, design, and implement innovative and effective approaches for delivering high-impact content via digital, web, and social platforms
  • Coordinate cross-campus teams as needed to design and implement digital marketing campaigns

Search Engine Optimization and Analytics
  • Research and analyze outcomes through site reviews, usability testing, surveys and website analytics to maximize desired results
  • Evaluate current sites for effectiveness and coordinate adjustments as needed
  • Optimize web page elements to rank each landing page high in web search results

Digital Content Development and Integration
  • Develop fresh and creative content (copy, photos, video, graphics) for high impact landing pages
  • Integrate third-party content and widgets (calendar events, news feeds, social widgets) into web pages and other online channels
  • Ensure that all digital content components are relevant and contain consistent branding and messaging elements  

Social Media Management
  • Raise awareness about WSSU and increase brand loyalty and engagement through social media channels
  • Create, oversee, and maintain the university's main presence on current and emerging social media platforms
  • Provide guidelines and training for other campus units that wish to establish and maintain a presence on social media
  • Provide a strategic approach and consistent messaging across campus by fostering communication and cooperation among the various departments

Email Marketing
  • Develop high impact, results oriented email campaigns
  • Ensure compliance with anti-spam laws
  • Coordinate effective use of mailing lists    

Online Advertising
  • Develop high impact, results oriented digital advertising campaigns
  • Develop target audiences
  • Measure effectiveness and return on advertising spends and coordinate adjustments as needed
