Giving Impact Areas

The naming of physical spaces on campus provides a wonderful way to honor those who have played key roles in the development of WSSU. Another exciting way to celebrate the legacy of people who have made key strides in the history of the university is by naming academic programs, faculty chairs, scholarships and fellowships. Endowed gifts such as these live on in perpetuity. Significant endowment gifts ensure continued progress in the reputation and quality of our academic programs.

Winston-Salem State University is proud that across its campus people who have had direct, substantial and active influence on the development of the University are honored and remembered in bricks and mortar.

It is our intention to continue to name our physical facilities in recognition of individuals or organizations that have attained achievements of extraordinary and lasting distinction. We consider these naming opportunities very carefully. Authority for the naming of facilities rests with the WSSU Board of Trustees, subject to policies established by the University Of North Carolina Board Of Governors.

The University has embarked on a strategic plan with one of our goals being to improve the Efficiency, Effectiveness and Resources of the university which resulted in our campus Master Plan for Transformation. This plan is our guide to campus facilities and grounds enhancement and growth for the long-term. It includes an array of naming opportunities such as:

  • Classrooms
  • Lecture Halls
  • Student Laboratories
  • Faculty Research Facilities
  • Conference and Meeting Rooms
  • Student Study and Lounge Areas
  • Dedicated Libraries

Scholarships enhance our ability to recruit the most amazing and deserving students. This investment aids in decreasing our students out of pocket expenses alleviating debt.

Investing in our faculty brings new and innovative techniques to the classroom to retain our students and improve graduation rates.

Moreover, as WSSU increases its expectation for research, we must support the faculty’s effort to balance teaching with high expectations of scholarship. Learn about ways you can support our faculty:

Endowed Distinguished Professorships

Endowed Professorships provide Winston-Salem State University the ability to attract and retain top-performing teacher-scholars. A gift of an endowed professorship supports accomplished talent with the reputation to build top-ranked programs as well as obtain critical research and teaching grants.
Funds support not only salary enhancements, but also research and classroom development needs of the faculty member. The University of North Carolina System may match funds to multiply the impact of your gift.

Faculty and Staff Development Funds

Faculty and staff development funds help WSSU retain and reward those people who teach, guide, and support students. These discretionary funds may be earmarked for:

· Recognition of Faculty Achievement
· Professional Travel
· Continuing Education Opportunities
· Research
· Sabbaticals

Donors may choose to create a new professorship or contribute to a professorship already established.
