In selecting the freshman class, WSSU bases its decisions on your:
- Academic Record
- Scores on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT)
- High School GPA
The admission criteria are the same for public and private school applicants. Candidates for admission are reviewed based on their academic performance in an accredited high school or on GED scores and either SAT Reasoning Test or ACT scores.
Applicants whose native language is one other than English must submit scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) in addition to any other required test scores.
We do not require subject test for admission.
As part of the UNC system, WSSU requires that applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and must successfully complete Minimum Course Requirements.
Extracurricular activities and employment experience may strengthen an application. Recommendations are generally not required, although a letter and high school profile sent by a guidance counselor may be useful during application review.
Admission to WSSU does not guarantee admission to any academic program. Several of our academic majors require you to apply for admission to the major during your sophomore year. Be sure to review the requirements for your major through our Online Undergraduate Catalog located in the Academics section of this site.
