Biomedical Research Infrastructure Center

A Message from the Director

Greetings,

Welcome to the Biomedical Research Infrastructure Center's (BRIC) web site. This site describes our many research and education activities, information about scientific findings and a listing of our other student activities beginning from middle school in the Forsyth County, Winston-Salem to undergraduate Minority Access to Research Careers. BRIC conducts original and innovative biomedical/behavioral research aimed at eliminating health disparities as they relate to hypertension/cardiovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, drug addiction, and sleep deprivation as it relates to alcoholism. Our research in improving minority health is the foundation for new strategies, vaccines and diagnostics necessary to reduce mortality rate in the minority community.

BRIC was established in 1996 and originally funded by National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), NIH. It is currently funded by the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD), NIH with four interdisciplinary collaborative projects. BRIC shares a basic laboratory research building with Wake Forest University School of Health Sciences at the Piedmont Triad Research Park (PTRP) where partnering with key collaborators at Wake Forest University and the biotechnology companies at the PTRP research is possible in such close a proximity. Today, BRIC is recognized as one of the WSSU's outstanding biomedical research centers. Through our dedication to BRIC's mission of promoting minority health through research and education in biomedical and translational research, I am confident that this growth and success will continue for many years to come. Again, welcome to the WSSU Biomedical Research Center web site. I hope that you will find it informative and useful.
