The goal of my research program is to describe and explain cognition in context, where context can mean many things. Context can be physical environment, such as a prison, a nursing home, assisted living center, or independent living. Context can include social others within these physical contexts, either at dyad, group or team, or social network levels. Context can reside within an individual as well. My research questions seek in part to discover the effect of different levels of context on cognition and emotion evidenced in linguistic and decisional outputs. I recently advised a MARC*U*STAR scholar in an investigation of political deception; specifically, the emotion shown in politicians' acoustic voice properties as they told lies to observers. The research was presented at Stanford University and is under peer review for publication.
