The Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions Program grant from the National Institutes of Health has enabled Winston-Salem State University to strengthen the infrastructure necessary for conducting the highest quality research. Thanks to RIMI, WSSU is attracting talented research faculty as well as making significant strides towards becoming a research-intensive institution. RIMI also promotes significant and substantial collaboration with Wake Forest University Health Sciences-strengthening the capacity for WSSU to build a truly competitive biomedical research enterprise.

The organizing body and the mid-stream adjustor of the BRIC-RIMI Center is its Advisory Board. The committee, which meets twice a year, evaluates the progress of the Center and monitors the needs of each core, collaborative, and pilot study.

There are eight permanent members on the committee, which is chaired by Dr. Mark Lively, Center for Structural Biology of Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
