WSSU Elementary Mathematics Invitational
The Winston-Salem State University Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education and Department of Mathematics want to personally invite elementary students to the FREE Winston-Salem State University Elementary Mathematics Invitational (EMI). The Winston-Salem State University Elementary Mathematics Invitational will be held in the Spring of 2016 on the campus of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU). The invitational consists of a math contest for 4th and 5th graders and math activities for their parents. This is an official NC Science Festival sanctioned event.
WSSU Mathematics Faceoff - High School
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) will host the 13th Annual Winston-Salem State University Mathematics Faceoff. This competition is for Level III Category and the Comprehensive Level (students above Level III math courses). This contest is sanctioned by the NC State Math Contest Committee.
Crime Scene Investigation
The Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) camp includes hands-on activities related to crime scene investigation as well as presentations from guest speakers. The students learn about how to examine forensic impression evidence, do a fire debris analysis, complete a glass fragment identification and understand death by poison.
LEGO Robotics represents a highly motivating, highly engaging basis for standards-based learning across the curriculum, with particular value in the four STEM subject areas. LEGO Robotics enables and facilitates progressive approaches to instruction and the kits serves as the foundation for the very popular FIRST LEGO League extra-curricular and after-school activities and competitions. The benefits to each student include: hands-on education,meets national learning standards, integrates STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), builds teamwork, and the work is fun and challenging.
Science, Literacy, Enrichment and Mathematics (SLEM) Summer Program
SLEM is designed to provide "STEM" enrichment, with a focus in literacy, to underserved, at-risk 3rd, 4th and 5th graders with an emphasis on minority males.
