American Chemical Society
(WSSU Student Chapter)
The primary purpose of Winston-Salem State University's (WSSU) Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is to promote chemistry and other aspects of science to the campus and local communities. The organization is focused on making its membership aware of opportunities for professional growth, networking, & research possibilities. In addition, the ACS supports the Chemistry Department's goal of recruiting students to the program by promoting the Department through participation in University Open House activities for prospective students. The members often take advantage of opportunities to participate in science fairs, science night activities, and after-school programs for local K-12 students. In addition to its attention to science related activities, the organization prides itself on serving the local community through a variety of annual projects including canned good collections for a local food bank and donating resources to benefit needy families in the Winston-Salem area.
