H.S. Research Apprenticeship Program

HIGH SCHOOL RESEARCH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
(HS-RAP)

On the campus of Winston-Salem State University
Sponsored by the National Science Foundation HBCU-UP Program

Monday, July 1st to Friday, July 19th 2013

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

  • The HS-RAP will acquaint high school students about career opportunities and research experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Three-week non residential program on the campus of WSSU; July 1st to July 19th, 2013 from  9:00 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m.
  • Students gain "hands-on experience" in developing an insight into science research  under faculty supervision 

BENEFITS

  • Participants will receive a $300 stipend
  • Receive certification of achievement at the end of the program

SELECTION CRITERIA/ELIGIBILITY

  • Preference will be given to rising high school  juniors and seniors
  • Demonstrate an interest in undergraduate study in STEM
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in attending WSSU
  • Agree to abide by university and program rules and regulations

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A completed application form
  • A copy of a recent report card or transcript
  • An essay (150-200 words) stating interest in program and professional goals
  • One letter of recommendation from high school guidance counselors, principal or STEM teachers
