The RAMS Know H.O.W. (Hands on Wellness) Mobile Unit is a community outreach program provided by Winston-Salem State University School of Health Sciences. The mobile unit offers free preventive health services to East Winston residents and others, who are uninsured or underinsured, in the convenience of their community.  The unit is made up of health sciences faculty, staff, and student volunteers. This team conducts the preventive health screenings and wellness services to local providers, as needed.

The mobile unit provides quality, accessible, and integrated wellness services to reduce health disparities. Through a strong referral and network base, we are able to advance the mission of Winston-Salem State University through excellent community outreach to those residing near the campus.

The RAMS Know H.O.W. Mobile Unit services include:

• Blood Pressure Measurements
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
• Glucose and Cholesterol Screenings
• Health Education
• Medical Referrals

Many local residents experience high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity. These factors increase the risk for stroke and cardiovascular disease. Other factors such as unemployment and lack of health insurance may delay regular health screening. Early screening and detection of health risks can help to prevent disease and improve the quality of life. At this time, we are able to provide services in the East Winston-Salem area only.
