Profile

Dr. F. Aysel Kavas is a Professor of Nutrition at the Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences, WSSU. She coordinates the Health Education Program and teaches health and nutrition courses. She has over 30 years of experience in teaching and research in the areas of nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, health, foods and food science. Before joining WSSU, she taught Nutrition, Biochemistry and Food Biochemistry at several higher education institutions including universities overseas. She has published extensively in the areas of nutrition and health, the effect of frequency of eating on metabolism, nutrition and the immune system and tumor growth, and nutritional evaluation of food processing, has authored a best-selling Nutrition book and has been co-principal investigator on several grants. Dr. Kavas' current research focuses on nutrition and health problems including obesity, hypertension and diabetes, food behavior, and education. She is married to Dr. Alican Kavas, professor of Marketing at WSSU School of Business and Economics. They have two daughters.
