Dr. Rachelle (Shelly) Barnes appointed as the interim Associate Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

It is my pleasure to announce this leadership appointments in the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education.

I am pleased to announce Dr. Rachelle (Shelly) Barnes has been appointed to serve as the interim Associate Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Dr. Barnes has 20 years of experience in higher education, having worked in both academic affairs and student affairs. She has served as the chairperson of the Department of Psychological Sciences since January 2020. During her time in this role, the department saw a steady increase in the enrollment of psychology majors and minors. Additionally, she spearheaded revisions to the curriculum that were data-driven and centered the needs of today’s students. Dr. Barnes has served on a variety of university committees, including the Strategic Planning Committee, Enrollment Management Steering Committee, and Retention Committee. She also is a member of the university’s Threat Assessment Team. Prior to her arrival at WSSU, she served as an Assistant Director in the Office of Disability Services at UNC Greensboro and as a visiting lecturer in the psychology department at NC A&T State University.

Winston-Salem State University’s Slater Speaker Series, presented in partnership with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, will host author and actress Tabitha Brown. The event will be held at 7 p.m. on April 17 at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston-Salem. It is free to attend; however, tickets are required.
