WSSU’s Dean of Health Sciences awarded prestigious ASAHP Fellows Program Award
Dr. Leslee Battle, dean of the Winston-Salem State University School of Health Sciences, has been awarded the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) Fellows Program Award for 2024.
The ASAHP is a national professional association for administrators, educators and others who are concerned with critical issues affecting allied health education. Their mission is to advance health professions education and discovery through interprofessional collaboration, leadership, excellence and innovation.
The ASAHP Fellows Program Award was designed to provide meaningful recognition to those members who have contributed significantly to allied health as administrators, educators, clinicians or researchers, and seeks to stimulate the striving for excellence within allied health.
“Being selected as an ASAHP Fellow is both a profound honor and a testament to the collective efforts of our entire School of Health Sciences,” Battle said. “This recognition underscores our shared commitment to advancing allied health education and our dedication to fostering excellence in every aspect of our work. It inspires me to continue striving for innovation, collaboration and impact within our field.”
Battle graduated from WSSU with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She served in several roles at Novant Health including as a staff nurse and staff development educator before returning to WSSU in 2005 as an assistant professor of nursing. She was named interim dean in 2020 and dean in 2022.
