WSSU appoints Jeremy Alltop as its new and first-ever chief operating officer

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is excited to announce the appointment of Jeremy Alltop as its first chief operating officer (COO), effective August 18. The creation of this new role reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening collaboration across divisions and ensuring long-term sustainability in a resource-conscious environment.

In his role as COO, Alltop will oversee an integrated portfolio that includes human resources, campus safety and police, emergency management, facilities, financial planning and budget, business and auxiliary services, financial services and information technology. By aligning these critical areas under one office, WSSU will enhance efficiency and strategic decision-making to better serve students, faculty, staff and the broader community.

“WSSU is moving toward a more integrated operations model that aligns key administrative and support services under a single leadership structure,” said Chancellor Bonita Brown. “Jeremy brings a wealth of experience, steady leadership and a collaborative spirit to this role. I am confident that this model will serve us well as we move forward in a resource-constrained environment.”

Most recently, he was chief financial officer of a federally qualified health center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Known for his ability to translate complex challenges into practical solutions, Alltop has built a reputation as a leader who strengthens institutions through innovation, collaboration and strategic management.
