WSSU Provost Dr. Stevie Lawrence named 2026 Diamond Award honoree

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Stevie L. Lawrence II has been selected as a 2026 Diamond Award Honoree, one of the nation’s most distinguished recognitions in humanitarian, academic and civic leadership.

Presented by The Not Alone Foundation, Inc. and The Academy of the Diamond Awards, the ceremony is regarded globally as “The Oscars of Civic and Community Service.” It honors individuals whose leadership demonstrates extraordinary impact, service and purpose.

Lawrence will be formally recognized during the 20th Anniversary Celebration of The Not Alone Foundation, Inc. and the 10th Milestone Anniversary of The Academy of the Diamond Awards on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at The Buckhead Club in Atlanta, Ga.

Lawrence’s career spans the Southern Regional Education Board, Fort Valley State University, the University of North Carolina System, Lincoln University of Missouri, and now Winston-Salem State University.

In its official proclamation, The Academy recognized Lawrence’s national impact as a scholar-administrator, advocate for equity and architect of student success.

“Your leadership reflects an uncompromising commitment to developing academic ecosystems that elevate underserved communities, expand equitable access and advance students’ holistic success,” said Mark Dodd, founder and CEO of The Not Alone Foundation. “You are more than a leader – you are a keeper of the flame.”

“I am deeply humbled by this recognition,” Lawrence said. “In my time at Winston-Salem State University, I have been inspired by our mission and by the students, faculty and staff who live it each day. Any impact I have made is shared with the mentors, colleagues and communities who have shaped my journey, and with the WSSU students who continue to motivate my work.”
