WSSU Foundation receives $60K grant for scholarships through Reynolds American Foundation partnership

The Reynolds American Foundation has awarded the Winston-Salem State University Foundation a $60,000 grant to support student scholarships.

The grant will help expand scholarship support for WSSU students, many of whom are first-generation college students or face financial barriers to completing their degrees. By reducing unmet financial need, the funding will help students remain enrolled, persist toward graduation and focus more fully on their academic and career goals.

“Reynolds American Foundation’s $60,000 scholarship grant represents a powerful commitment to access and opportunity. This support eases financial burdens for our students and reinforces our shared belief that education is a catalyst for upward mobility and long-term impact,” said Kevan Turman, vice chancellor of University Advancement.

“Support from partners like the Reynolds American Foundation plays a critical role in advancing the university’s mission to provide access to high-quality education and prepare graduates for meaningful careers and leadership. The university is grateful for the Foundation’s continued investment in its students and their futures,” said William Gibson, director of corporate/foundation engagement at WSSU.

“Education sits at the heart of the Reynolds American Foundation’s approach to community investment and wellbeing,” said Shay Mustafa, chair of the Reynolds American Foundation. “The Foundation’s support for Winston-Salem State University is about creating pathways for individuals to pursue meaningful careers while reinforcing the role education plays in long-term opportunity and community vitality.”
