Accreditation

The educator preparation programs of Winston-Salem State University are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. CAEP, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation manages accreditation oversight of legacy NCATE Accredited educator preparation programs transitioning to CAEP Accreditation. Educator preparation programs included in the 2015 NCATE accreditation decision were:

  • B.S., Birth through Kindergarten Education, Teacher Licensure concentration
  • B.S., Elementary Education
  • B.S., Teaching with concentrations in Middle Grades Education English/Language Arts, Middle Grades Educ n ation Mathematics, Middle Grades Education Science, Middle Grades EducatioSocial Studies, Secondary English Education, Secondary Mathematics Education, and Special Education
  • B.S., Physical Education, Teacher Licensure concentration
  • B.S., Music Education
  • M.A., Teaching with concentrations in Middle Grades Education English/Language Arts, Middle Grades Education Mathematics, and Middle Grades Education Science
  • M.A., Teaching of English as a Second Language

The WSSU Therapeutic Recreation Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Park, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT). accredits baccalaureate programs in parks, recreation, tourism, sport management, event management, therapeutic recreation, and leisure studies offered at regionally accredited institutions within the United States and its territories, and at nationally accredited institutions in Canada, and Mexico. The WSSU TR Program has been accredited since 1997. COAPRT is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Association (CHEA).
