ABOUT US
WSSU Awarded 2-year Grant on 2/2/21 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
Thanks to a $3,793,191 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the rehabilitation counseling program will be able to provide treatment services to individuals with serious mental health issues and co-occurring disorders in a dozen counties in the Piedmont Triad.
WSSU’s Behavioral and Health Community Support Unit (WSSU’s BeHCU) and the BeHCU Support Mobile Unit (WSSU’s BeHCU-MU) was developed by the Department of Rehabilitation Counseling and is located on the campus of Winston-Salem State University within the School of Health Sciences, Center of Excellence for the Elimination of Health Disparities (CEEHD). The BeHCU Center is federally funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The BeHCU provides support to address serious mental and emotional illness, co-occurring disorders, opioid use disorders, alcohol and other drug use disorders and the vocational needs of diverse men, women, children, transitional-aged youth, and veterans residing in the Piedmont Triad Area of North Carolina (included: Forsyth, Surry, Randolph). Preventative health care services are provided to reduce communicable diseases and provide referrals for health services. Various screening and testing services are available to screen for communicable diseases (e.g., Covid-19, HIV, and Hepatitis). The BeHCU also works with community partners to provide case management to address the various needs of our clients.
