Tamika Anderson Thrasher

Biography

Dr. Tamika Anderson Thrasher, an alum of Winston-Salem State University, began working as a registered nurse in 1999. She specializes in pediatrics, and has worked as a pediatric nurse in a variety of settings including acute care, primary care, and public schools. Dr. Thrasher began her career as a nurse educator in 2007. Dr. Thrasher is the Chair of Undergraduate Nursing and Assistant Professor in the Division of Nursing. Dr. Thrasher is the coordinator of Child Health Nursing in the pre-licensure BSN program. She has also taught various other undergraduate nursing courses at the sophomore, junior, and senior levels. In addition to undergraduate nursing education, Dr. Thrasher has served as mentor, preceptor, and Scholarly Project Chair to graduate level nursing students in the Advanced Nurse Educator program. Dr. Thrasher has a profound love for teaching. She strives daily to be an influential role model and motivator for her students. Her ultimate goal, as a leader in nursing education, is to cultivate competent, professional registered nurses who have the ability to thrive and make lasting contributions in the field of healthcare. Dr. Thrasher's research and scholarly work focuses on sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in the African American community; specifically educating the African American community about infant safe sleep practices and other risk reduction strategies.
