The Medical Laboratory Science Department provides students with the appropriate education and training to develop entry-level competencies in all routine areas of the clinical laboratory.

Students not only learn the basic theory and techniques necessary to function in a clinical laboratory, but also take opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills gained on campus to actual patient care situations. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take one or more of the nationally recognized certification exams.

Winston-Salem State University Medical Laboratory Science Program is the largest contributor of minority graduates to the laboratory workforce in the state of North Carolina. In the past three years, over 90% of WSSU MLS graduates have found jobs within six months after graduating.
