Emergency Personnel & Operations Designations
As a reference to the State Human Resources Adverse Weather Policy and Emergency Closing Policy, both dated January 1, 2015, and the applicable UNC System Adverse Weather & Emergency Closing Policy, the following list of definitions are intended to clarify which functions and positions on campus may fall under a particular designation for adverse weather and emergency response operations.
All mandatory/emergency employees are notified in advance of their designation status.
Definitions: Emergency Personnel / Operations Designations
Employees who are required to work during adverse weather, communicable disease outbreaks, or other emergency conditions. These are employees whose physical presence at the workplace is essential and required for the operation of the institution, and the employee is required to report to (or remain at) work, regardless of the adverse or emergency condition.
Employees who are required to work during a campus emergency closing, Campus State of Emergency declaration, and/or other campus emergency or disaster because their positions have been designated by the Chancellor, Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety, Director of Emergency Management or designee as critical in response to a specific emergency situation in compliance with the WSSU Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). This includes all Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Staff or members of the Campus Crisis Management Group (CMG), and includes any duties that may be required in a teleworking status.
Employees whose positions have been designated as non-mandatory to agency operations. These employees may be approved for a leave of absence during adverse weather or other emergency conditions. Questions about leave of absences, timekeeping, or time approvals can be directed to the WSSU Office of Human Resources.
Services that have been determined essential by the Chancellor and therefore, shall be continued during adverse weather or other emergency conditions. These services include public safety, facility operations, environmental health & safety, food services, and housing & residence life, among other support and administrative services that are considered essential.
Mandatory operations are services that have been determined necessary by the Chancellor, Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety, Emergency Management Director, or designee in response to specific emergency conditions. These operations may vary depending on the nature of the emergency situation and are identified in the WSSU Emergency Operations Plan.
Non-critical operations that may be temporarily suspended during adverse weather, communicable disease outbreak, or other emergency conditions because they are not critical to directly addressing the emergency situation or supporting activities that must continue during emergency conditions.
