Cleon F. Thompson Jr. Student Services Center
A cornerstone of campus life since 1996, this 107,000-square-foot facility is named in honor of Dr. Cleon F. Thompson Jr., WSSU’s former chancellor (1985–1995). The Center is intentionally designed to centralize key student and administrative services while also offering welcoming spaces for gatherings and events.

Donald Julian Reaves (DJR) Student Activities Center
Opened as a state-of-the-art 96,000-square-foot facility, the DJR Student Activities Center combines health, wellness, recreation, and community spaces to create a dynamic student-centered environment. It serves as the heartbeat of informal student gatherings, university programming, and daily campus life.

- First Floor: Robust food court offerings (Chick-fil-A, Subway, Burger Studio, Topio’s Pizza), Multi-purpose rooms for events (Campus Hall 100 A&B), UREC weight room, and full-size gymnasium

Student Centers Space Reservations
Overview
The Student Centers at Winston-Salem State University—including Thompson and DJR—serve as dynamic hubs for a wide range of campus events, including student organization meetings, trainings, social activities, and special programs. To ensure effective management and equitable access, all Student Centers space reservations are processed exclusively through the 25Live scheduling system.
Eligibility & External Stakeholder Advisory

Reservations are available to WSSU students, recognized student organizations, faculty, staff, and university departments. - External Stakeholders:
Any external individuals, organizations, or vendors wishing to host events on campus must first coordinate directly with the University Conference and Institute office for approval and reservation of appropriate spaces. Only after securing authorization there should they seek to reserve Student Centers spaces.
Available Spaces
Spaces within Thompson and DJR Student Centers are designed to accommodate a variety of event types and group sizes. All facilities are fully ADA-compliant to support guests with disabilities.

Office Assistants (OA)
Office Assistants provide essential administrative support critical to the efficient operation of the Campus Center. Responsibilities include performing routine clerical tasks such as copying, filing, mail distribution, telephone reception, visitor assistance, and errand execution. Additionally, OAs undertake data entry related to website updates, event scheduling, and record management in established systems. Candidates must demonstrate strong computer proficiency, exceptional communication skills, reliability, and the capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment. Information Center Assistants (ICA)
Information Center Assistants serve as the primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the Campus Center. This role entails staffing the Information Desk during operational hours, including extended hours during special events, providing directions, disseminating information on university programs and community resources, manage printed materials, and facilitate ticket sales and event registrations. ICAs also coordinate communication via telephone and radio systems with campus personnel. Ideal candidates exhibit superior interpersonal and customer service skills, strong cash-handling ability, comprehensive knowledge of campus operations, and the capacity to maintain professionalism independently or in high-traffic situations.
Event Setup Assistants (ESA)
Event Setup Assistants are integral to the logistical preparation and execution of events hosted within the Campus Center. Duties include room set-up and turnover, light custodial tasks, production and placement of signage, and general event support. ESAs collaborate closely with Assistant Building Managers and professional staff to ensure seamless event operations. Candidates must possess the physical ability to lift and maneuver objects weighing 30 to 40 pounds and maintain a flexible schedule, including availability during evenings, weekends, and mornings. Technical aptitude or a willingness to learn events technology and equipment operation is required.
Assistant Building Managers (ABM)
Assistant Building Managers provide supervisory oversight during Campus Center operating hours, including responsibility for opening and closing procedures, student staff supervision, enforcement of safety and security policies, and incident management in accordance with established protocols. ABMs exemplify professionalism, leadership, and effective communication while collaborating with professional staff to maintain facility operations and support event execution. Promotion to this position requires successful completion of the ABM Trainee program for a minimum of one semester. Candidates must maintain a flexible schedule, including availability during mornings, nights, and weekends. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

The Cleon F. Thompson Student Services Center is 107,000 square foot facility. The center has served the students of Winston-Salem State University since opening in September 1996 and was officially dedicated in October 1996. The center is named for Dr. Cleon F. Thompson Jr. who served as chief administrator of Winston-Salem State University [1985-1995]. A well-equipped facility that continues to provide services through several departments such as Enrollment Management, Bookstore, Post Office, Food Services, it includes Kennedy Dining Hall and Faculty and Staff Dining Room (Red Room), a large multi-purpose room and four conference/meeting rooms.
