Prospective students may gain admission to the Honors Program in the following ways:
- As an incoming Freshman recipient of an institutional merit-based scholarship.
- As a Continuing student who applies and meets the eligibility criteria.
- As a Transfer student who applies and meets the eligibility criteria.
Current and Transfer Students
Current and Transfer students may apply for admission to the Honors Program based on the following criteria:
- A minimum 3.25 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA).
- A minimum of 15 earned credit hours at WSSU.
- Completed Application to the Honors Program.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty that address your academic potential and your potential to be an asset to the Honors Program.
- Unofficial WSSU Transcript.
- Essay (400-500 words) that addresses how participation in the Honors Program will contribute to your intellectual engagement and leadership development.
Current and Transfer students will be considered Members by Induction. This designation is restricted to students who have earned between 15 and 60 credit hours only.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Continuance in the Honors Program
All students must maintain the required GPA pursuant to their respective scholarship to remain in the Society. Any student falling below the minimum GPA will have one academic term to restore good standing.
Additionally, all students must complete 15 hours of community service each semester and attend all meetings and other activities, unless an excused absence is obtained from program staff.

- Completed essay. Write an essay (400-500 words) that addresses how participation in the Scholars Society will contribute to your intellectual engagement and leadership development.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
