sgatkins-society-official-logo.jpegThe essence of the Honors Program is personal attention, enlightening seminars, illuminating study abroad experiences, numerous research opportunities, and career-building internships—all designed to enhance students' educational experience and prepare them for graduate studies or a career.

The central goal is academic enrichment which is undergirded by a nurturing, supportive environment in which students can develop and grow.

Winston-Salem State University recognizes that much of students' education occurs beyond the walls of the classroom. As such, students are encouraged to participate in traditional and non-traditional learning experiences, including international travel, social, academic, cultural and recreational activities.

The Honors Program is an interdisciplinary, institutional undergraduate program that includes both curricular and co-curricular components, as well as a variety of experiential learning initiatives. Events are tailored to the needs of highly motivated students. Some of the unique features of the Society include the following:

  • Student Scholars Organization (SSO)
  • Professional and Career Preparation
  • Leadership Development
  • Conference Attendance
  • Community Engagement Projects
  • Priority Registration and Advisement
  • Social Enhancement Activities

Mission

The Honors Program provides high-achieving WSSU undergraduate students enriched educational experiences that develop their scholarly excellence, foster their intellectual curiosity, enhance their personal growth, and promote their engagement in the community.
