All students in the Honors Program are considered to be members of the Student Scholars Organization (SSO).
The SSO, which meets on the third Tuesday of each month, promotes interaction among Scholars through social activities, leadership development, cultural enrichment, and service learning. This organization serves as the student voice of the Honors Program.
The intent of the Student Scholars Organization is to assist scholars in creating an undergraduate educational experience that promotes scholarship, knowledge, and an appreciation of African-American culture as a mirror for understanding other world cultures.
The Student Scholars Organization, based on student governance, provides opportunities for scholars to participate in workshops and seminars, community service and fundraising events, as well as national and regional honors conferences. The Student Scholars Organization programs reflect compelling educational priorities for the Honors Program, as well as supporting an ongoing strategic plan for the development and enhancement on local, regional, and national levels.
